Today, I will share some tips on how to properly care for your swim gear after a lesson. Proper maintenance is crucial not only for the longevity of your equipment but also for your comfort and performance in the water. Whether you're a seasoned swimmer or just starting, these tips will help you keep your gear in top shape.
Why Swim Gear Care Matters
After swimming, your gear can be exposed to chlorine, salt, and other harsh chemicals. If left untreated, these can damage the fabric and shorten the lifespan of your equipment. A little care goes a long way, so let’s dive into the steps!
Checklist for Swim Gear Care
1. Rinse Your Gear
Action: Immediately rinse your swim gear after use.
Purpose: This removes chlorine, salt, and chemicals that can be harsh on the fabric.
2. Soak Your Gear
Action: Soak your gear for about 2 to 3 minutes in clean water.
Purpose: This allows the water to penetrate the fabric and wash away lingering chemicals.
3. Hang to Dry
Action: Find a well-ventilated area to hang your gear up to dry.
Purpose: Proper drying prevents unpleasant odours and mould from forming.
4. Use a Dehumidifier (if necessary)
Action: Turn on a dehumidifier in humid conditions.
Purpose: This helps speed up the drying process, keeping everything fresh.
5. Dry Swim Caps Correctly
Action: Turn swim caps inside out to pat dry, then flip them back to their original side to air out.
Purpose: This prevents mold and mildew development.
6. Care for Your Goggles
Action: Handle goggles with care and avoid touching the lenses too much. Use a soft cloth or lens cleaner for cleaning.
Purpose: This prevents scratches which can affect visibility in the water.
